Special consecutive public lectures for freshmen

Due to the influence of the new Corona virus, which has spread on a global scale since the beginning of 2020, we are holding a series of lectures for new students of University of Tsukuba who have been prevented from living in universities that have been run as a matter of course. Since admission, freshmen were struggling to attend online lectures. This lecture series is aimed at cheering up struggling freshmen by providing opportunities that might increase their vitality and intellectual curiosity of campus life in the future.

Lecture Series “The Future of Central Eurasia and Japan”

The NipCA Project has been holding public lectures by experts since the first year on themes related to social and global issues facing the Central Eurasian region and Japan, with the aim of contributing to local communities in a broad sense and encouraging awareness of problems not only for NipCA fellows, but also for faculty members, researchers, and students in and out of the university. This lecture series is part of the Super Global University (SGU) project of University of Tsukuba.

Roundtable “Online Study Abroad – New Educational Possibilities Found from The Difficulties of the Corona Disaster”

Since April 17 2020, all undergraduate and graduate schools of University of Tsukuba has launched a university-wide online classes system, and various challenges emerged. This roundtable symposium is planned in five series to organize the significance and possibilities of online education in preparation for the post-corona era. The aim of this symposium was to invite six students who were studying abroad in Russia as of February 2020, have them report on the outline and experience of continuing classes online after coming back, and to deepen discussions about the future of online education and study abroad.

EMI Training, University of Oxford, UK

During the period of Sept. 11, 2020 (Fri.) – Sept. 18 (Fri.), Dr. Yamamoto Yukiko, an associate professor in charge of this project, attended the training of English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI). EMI is one of the instruction methods that gain attention in recent years, claiming “to teach students who are not native speakers of English, major subjects classes, only in English.”

Al-Farabi Kazakh National University’s University of Tsukuba Office Opening Ceremony Held

On December 22, 2020 (Tue.), Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KNU)’s University of Tsukuba (UT) Office opening ceremony was held. KNU is one of the eleven Campus-in-Campus (CiC) partner universities with which the UT is working to realize trans-border educational and research exchanges that transcend national borders and institutional boundaries.

Courtesy Visit to President Sasakawa Yohei of the Nippon Foundation by NipCA Fellow

On Tuesday March 16, 2021, five first-term NipCA fellows who completed the Master’s Programs Special Program in Japan and Eurasian Studies (SPJES), Master’s Program in International Area Studies, Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Tsukuba, and one who are scheduled to complete in September, made a courtesy visit to the Nippon Foundation. Each fellow was awarded the certification of the 1st Sasakawa NipCA Fellow.
