ADA University

ADA University was established under the regulation dated January 13, 2014 by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. In addition to research development, it is a higher education institution which provides Undergraduate and Graduate School Degree Programs. The Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy (ADA) and the University of Information Technology were integrated in January 2014 and ADA University was established.

Republic of Kazakhstan

The Al-Farabi Kazakh National University

The Al-Farabi Kazakh National University is known as the top university in Kazakhstan that consists of 16 Departments. The Faculty of Oriental Studies actively dispatches students to Japan, Korea, China, Turkey, India, and Egypt. The College of Japan, Department of Oriental Studies has established an education program with a comprehensive area of Japanese studies, not only Japanese language, but also Japanese history and culture, and has produced a number of human resources involved in diplomacy, economics, and science with Japan.

University of Narxoz

This university is highly specialized in education and research in the fields of economics and management. In 2014 Kazakh Economic University was renamed New Economic University, and in 2016 it was renamed to its current name. In 2002, the Japan Human Resources Development Center in Kazakhstan was established on the Almaty campus of the University, and projects aimed at supporting human resource development to respond to the adaptation of market economy in Kazakhstan and promoting mutual understanding between Japan and Kazakhstan have been developed.

Nazarbayev University

This new university was established in 2009 in the capital city of Kazakhstan, Astana (now Nur Sultan), aiming for a world-level of education. Education is aimed at a combination of good parts of the world’s prominent universities and unique parts of Kazakhstan. Classes are held in English, and many professors are invited from abroad. Students are not only Kazakh, but also students of a wide variety of ethnic and nationalities. President is Japanese, Dr. Katsu Shigeo, former Vice President of the World Bank.

Republic of Uzbekistan

Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies

This university was built in 1991 by separating the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Tashikent National University, and is now a central institution for Japanese language education and Japanese studies in Uzbekistan. Not only language, but also human resource development and young researchers are being trained in a wide range of area, including Japanese literature, history, political economy, philosophy, and international relations. Nearly 150 students are currently studying Japanese, and it is said that both the number of learners and Japanese language teachers are the largest in Uzbekistan.

University of World Economy and Diplomacy

The University of World Economy and Diplomacy was founded in 1992 by President Uzbekistan’s Islam Karimov as an institution of higher education to foster future leaders in Uzbekistan. As the name of the university says, it specializes in international relations, international economics, etc. to learn about the world’s economy and foreign policy. They also focus in language education of Uzbek, Russian, Asian and European languages. In addition, there is an information resource center established by UNDP of the United Nations in the university.

Kyrgyz Republic

Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn

Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn is a top comprehensive university in Kyrgyz with 21 faculties, with about 22,000 students enrolled. Founded in 1932, it is said to be the most traditional and prestigious national university in Kyrgyzstan. In addition, the “Kyrgyz Republic Japanese Human Resources Development Center”, a JICA-affiliated organization that provides training in Japanese language and business, as well as exchange events with Japan, has an office in the university.

Republic of Tajikistan

Russian-Tajik Slavonic University

It is a university operated under the cooperation of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Russian Federal Government. It has the highest level of education in the country for teaching the Russian language, or teaching in the Russian language. There are 6 faculties- the Faculty of Law, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Foreign Languages, Faculty of Literature, Faculty of Journalists and Media, Faculty of Information Technology Management and Faculty of History and International Relations, and more than 3,000 students are studying.

Tajikistan National University of Linguistics

Tajikistan National University of Linguistics was founded in 1979 as the National University of Russian Language and Literature Education in Tajikistan. After independence from Tajikistan, it was replaced by the National University of Linguistics of Tajikistan in 1992. It specializes in the teachings of English, German, French, Russian, Persian, Arabic, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese. Currently, there are 195 faculty members and 3,000 students.

Republic of Turkmenistan

Turkmen National Institute of Foreign Languages, named after D. Azadi

A university specialized in foreign Language education. Founded in 1984 as the Russian Language and Literature Education University, it was renamed in 2007 by the current President. The total number of students is approximately 1,000. The School of Oriental Languages and Literatures has seven foreign language departments: Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Turkish, Persian, Arabic, and Hindi; the School of Russian Language and Literature has one foreign language department: Russian; and the School of Romance and Germanic Languages has four foreign language departments: English, German, French, and Spanish. Thus totals to 12 Foreign Languages departments. Also, the Department of Japanese Language, Faculty of Oriental Studies and Literature provides the only Japanese language education in Turkmenistan.
