Between March 11-18, 2024, a delegation from the University of Tsukuba, led by Dr. Kobayashi Yusuke from the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the Institute of Medicine, visited Kazakhstan with the aim of exchanging knowledge and experiences with Kazakhstani medical students and faculty. The delegation comprised four students from the University of Tsukuba, Dr. Kobayashi, and Dr. Insebayeva Nafissa, a NipCA Project researcher.
On March 11-12, 2024, the delegation visited Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University, where they received an introduction to the university and its structure by Associate Professor Sukenova Dinara. The students were briefed on the university’s programs and acquainted themselves with the higher medical education system in Kazakhstan. Additionally, the delegation was invited to tour the Asfendiyarov KazNMU Bone Museum, the Genome Center, and Almaty City Hospital #4.
From March 13-14, 2024, the delegation proceeded to visit Al-Farabi Kazakh National University’s Student Center “Keremet”, the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, the Higher School of Public Health (Al-Farabi Kazakh National University), and Almaty Medical College. Here, discussions centered around the distinctions between medical institutions in Japan and Kazakhstan, with a particularly lively discourse on the roles and responsibilities of nurses in both nations. Subsequently, the delegation engaged in a dialogue addressing the challenges women encounter in the workplace and strategies to overcome societal stigmas.
On March 15, 2024, the delegation held an official visit to the Nazarbayev University School of Medicine, where they were warmly welcomed by Dr. Pignatelli, Dean of the School of Medicine, Dr. Saparov, Vice Dean for Medical Education, and Dr. Atageldiyeva, Assistant Professor. They were acquainted with the programs offered at NUSOM and engaged in productive discussions regarding the Japanese Medical Education system. Additionally, they were invited to partake in tours of the NUSOM Campus and the Nazarbayev University Main Campus, with both institutions expressing their desire for continued collaboration and expansion between NUSOM and the University of Tsukuba.
Concluding their visit, on the final day of the training program, the delegation visited the National Children’s Rehabilitation Center and met with Dr. Jaxybayeva, Chair of the Neurology Department at Astana Medical University. There, they toured the Center, gaining insights into its unique role in facilitating children’s recovery in a nurturing environment, and had the opportunity to inquire about pediatric care practices in Kazakhstan.
