A total of eight 5th cohort NipCA Fellows participated in the “Study Tour to Hokkaido”, a Japanese company internship program I, from Wednesday, July 10 to Saturday, July 13, 2024.

The fellows received training at local governments and companies that are implementing progressive initiatives and learned about the SDGs in the uniquely developing Niseko region of Hokkaido.

During the internship, participants visited Shinshinotsu Village Office, Shinshinotsu Astronomical Observatory, Farm Inn Yonebayashi, Hokkaido University, Niseko High School, Hikobayu LLC, Niseko HANAZONO Resort, and Upopoy National Ainu Museum. During the course, the participants learned about Niseko Town’s efforts towards sustainability in tourism and development, the history of the Ainu people, and the connection with nature through forestry, and also had the opportunity to experience weeding in the fields and pounding rice cakes.
